21 May 2020 - Plague Journal Day 70

We all are still sheltering in place, but I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

Today is National Strawberries and Cream Day. This puts me in mind of a trip to England way back in the 20th century. It was June - Wimbeldon time in London - and it was hot. No, not just hot for England, with her generally mild climate, it was well into the 80s (that's Fahrenheit - we were getting close to 30C for those who speak metric). It was hot enough that Harrods had relaxed their dress code to allow shoppers in shorts to enter the store. (Yes, Harrods, the department store, had a dress code and refused entry to shoppers not conforming to said standards.)
Well, although they were allowing shorts, they were not allowing cutoffs, and especially not very short cutoffs. How do I know that? One of our party was wearing precisely that, and was turned away at the door. What to do? This still seems almost beyond odd to me, but we went shopping at another store to buy shorts in order to go shopping at Harrods.
You're likely wondering why any of that came to mind because of strawberries and cream day. Allow me to explain. Strawberries and cream is a traditional celebratory treat at Wimbeldon time, and the shop where we ended up buying shorts was a sports clothing type store. Accordingly, they had small bowls of berries and cream as a treat for their shoppers, and we were glad to accept their offer.
Ah, the joys of Wimbeldon and shopping at Harrods when it's hot in London.
Here's a bonus way to celebrate berries and cream!

Today is also the celebration of The Ascension.
Check it out here: Luke 24:45-53, Acts 1:6-11

Why does it matter? Christ has gone to prepare a place for us, and to be an advocate for us. Knowing He is there, interceding for His own makes life Bearable, Meaningful, Exciting, and Joyful. Amen.

Keep Calm and Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.
