Do They Realize? - 08 September 2022

I have my doubts that our ruling class realize what they're telling us. Frankly, I'm not sure they realize much of anything - for them it's all a game with us as the pieces on the board.

Anyway, the endless drive to forgive student loans because those who took them out cannot afford to pay them is nothing but a statement that a college education is a bad investment. Today's "leaders" see college/university education as merely a more advanced job training. Given that view, if the jobs that result are not lucrative enough to pay for the required training, only a fool would make that choice.

Even setting aside the obvious unfairness of forcing payment of these loans by folks who have either paid their own debts or who didn't take out any loans in the first place, we're faced with the conclusion that a college/university degree is a very bad investment indeed. It seems that only those who didn't bother with it are capable of paying for it - and that for the purported benefit of others.

Clearly the whole scheme is insane and immoral. Whether it's illegal or unconstitutional remains to be seen.

I hate living in a kleptocracy.

Votes for Everyone - 10 March 2022 - Plague Journal Day 728

Micah 6:8
Matthew 20:25-26
Yes, your life matters.

Some of you are still sheltering in place, but fear not: I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

On 10 March 1971 the US Senate approved an amendment lowering the voting age to 18. I remember that change, and I remember thinking that - even though I was one of its "beneficiaries" - it sounded like a bad idea. I still think it might have been a foolish move.

I understand the idea that "if they're old enough to be in the Army, they're old enough to vote," but when we dump kids at 18 into the Army, we don't ask them what they want, we tell them what to do and teach them how to do it. Does anyone really think it's a good idea to have folks with limited education (especially these days) and essentially no actual life experience decide how the rest of us should live and behave?

I have enough trouble accepting the current ruling class (who tend to match that description above, now that I think about it) and their whims and pronouncements. I think I'll go grab a spare $60k and buy a Tesla so I don't have to worry about gas prices. What idiocy.

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.

We Don't Need No Stinking Debts - 05 January 2022 - Plague Journal Day 664

I've considered posting about Student Loan "forgiveness" for quite some time, but hadn't gotten around to it. My basic idea was that those agitating for it are really saying, "I borrowed more than I want to repay, so folks who didn't borrow the money (and didn't get the education), should pay it back for me."
I hadn't really considered those in government who advocate for it (and who also still carry student debt) are saying the same thing, but also saying "I can't figure out how to pay this back, so clearly you chumps out there who can't get elected to Congress can't either."

That is a truly frightening thought, and much better expressed in this piece by the pseudonymous George MF Washington found here. (I don't think there's any subscription required to read this, but let me know if it doesn't work for you.)

Are we all bozos in this country?

So now we've managed to keep an extra socialist in the Democratic race - who knew so many single women could be moved to vote by the sight of Hillary's tears? - and in Michigan there's a petition drive starting to amend the State Constitution to mandate universal health care.

Good grief - who's going to pay for it? All the out-of-work folks who are busily packing up and trying to sell their homes so they can move to another state where there are jobs?

Oh, we'll just raise taxes on the few who are left - they can pay for it all, right?

I hate to say it, but I seem to be living in a State of greedy, selfish morons.
grr.

e pluribus unum

As our erstwhile Vice President once told a school audience, e pluribus unum means out of one come many. It's beginning to look like the old Veep Gore's misunderstanding and mis-translation has taken root in the Senate (hey, that's where he used to hang out, isn't it?).
Yep, the Senate, thanks to a member from Hawaii, is poised to further fracture our Union. These United States will have even more levels of government, this time based on yet another racial or ethnic identification - Native Hawaiians.
As a native American of Belgian descent, I resent other ethnicities getting all the goodies - I want to set up a Barony of Belgian-Americans that operates in tandem with the current Federal government. As Baron of Belgian America, I will rule my brethren with kindness, mercy, frites, mussels, and beer. After all, if other groups get extra layers of government to insulate them from reality, why shouldn't I? Freedom for Flemish Americans! Up the Walloons!
I suppose it's more likely we'll end up with a federation of a Balkanized America than with my dream of the Barony of Belgian America. So, with a heavy heart, I say:
grr.
