No Rin, Just Tintin - 03 March 2022 - Plague Journal Day 721

Yes, your life matters.

Some of you are still sheltering in place, but fear not: I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

Today is the anniversary of the passing of Hergé, the creator of the Adventures of Tintin. Hergé, whose actual name was Georges Prosper Remi, shuffled off this mortal coil on 03 March 1983. Tintin is probably my second favourite European comic (Asterix is number one, natch!), and it's nice to discover that it was penned by a Belgian.

Just four short years after Hergé's demise the world lost another brilliant entertainer, David Daniel Kaminsky - you probably knew him as Danny Kaye. What a great song and dance man he was, but he did so much more. He had a series of really funny movies: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Court Jester, and one that I didn't realise he was in - The Madwoman of Chaillot. That last one isn't so much a madcap comedy like most of the others, but it's a spectacular film which I highly recommend.

Of course he was also a big part of White Christmas, merrily poking fun at Gene Kelly in (my actual favourite movie) An American in Paris.

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.
The mental health issues related to our insane lockdown and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, has a 24 hour helpline: 800-950-6264.
