05 October 2022 - Now for Something Completely Different

What a momentous week in history we're currently astride!

Yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of the launch of the first (known) artificial satellite around the Earth - Sputnik I. That was quite a kick in the pants for America's German scientists to get to work and beat the Soviets' German scientists in the great Space Race. "Nazi Schmazti," said Werner von Braun.

Ah, but today marks the 53rd anniversary of the premiere of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" on BBC1. No doubt all those watching realised that it truly was something completely different.

Further, today would have been the 193rd birthday of the 21st President of these United States, Chester Alan Arthur. He's probably best-known among those of us in the know for his famed climb to the top of the bedroom wall where he thrust his defiance at the Javanese and shouted, "Give me them, or I'm going over there!"

Let the celebrations roll!

A Busy Day - 12 March 2022 - Plague Journal Day 730

Micah 6:8
Luke 10:38-42
Yes, your life matters.

Some of you are still sheltering in place, but fear not: I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

Well, I have way too much to do today, so there's not really time to post much of anything.

Sorry about that, but come back tomorrow and the following days; I should have something worth reading then.

Until then, enjoy this fabulous interlude.

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.

I've been spending some "quality"time on ebay the last few days, trying to score an old, but still functional 8mm camcorder or video player. We have about half a plethora of old videotapes waiting to be digitized and my old camcorder seems to have shuffled off this mortal coil and passed to the great beyond - it is an ex-camcorder. Beautiful plumage, though.

Anyway, it seems a bit ironic that the universe has decreed today as Camcorder Day. (I assume it's the universe decreeing all these days. I mean, there couldn't be specific Acts of Congress for all this stuff, could there?) Ah well. We shall see. Perhaps the old girl just needed a rest. After a couple days' being unplugged she might well fire up again tonight and let me finish the project without buying anything "new" to replace her. My fingers are crossed.

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.

Pining for the Fjords - 05 October 2021 - Plague Journal Day 572

1969 Britain had no idea just what the BBC was about to spring on them. On 05 October 1969, a new programme was broadcast - Monty Python's Flying Circus - and television and comedy have not been the same since.

While these folks were clearly influenced by Beyond the Fringe and the Goon Show, there was just another level of zany, madcap subversion to the Pythons and we're all the better for their having had their say on the airwaves.

Now, for something completely different.
Ten years ago today, on 05 October 2011, Steve Jobs shuffled off his mortal coil (purportedly his last word was "Wow," spoken as he looked at something no one else could see up in the corner of his room near the ceiling.

"What if just taking the animal out of the meat made us and our planet healthier? What if we all Go Beyond?" is the question from the first TV commercial from Beyond Meat.
The mind fairly boggles at the idea of a world without animals. The further question for those so intent on wiping out our less-able-to-defend-themselves brethren (and sistern) is - whence will come the CO2 needed for plant life? One wonders if these 'scientists' and 'activists' and 'chumps' ever encountered the idea of a balanced aquarium; a system where the plants and fish were in balance as regards O2 and CO2 (not to mention Nitrogen compounds of various types!). Perhaps that's too difficult to understand.
I know, I'm asking a lot; but if you're going to tell everyone how to run the world, you ought to have some concept of how things fit together and interdepend.
grr.

On a much happier note, today is International Traffic Light Day. Please obey the signals as you cross any national borders. I thank you in advance for your consideration.
Here's a bit of a celebratory video.
You're welcome.

Keep Calm and Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.
