Good Grief - 26 November 2021 - Plague Journal Day 624

Micah 6:8
2 Corinthians 7:8-10
Yes, your life matters.

Some of you are still sheltering in place, but fear not: I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

Today is Good Grief Day - simply the commemoration of the birth (on this date in 1922) of Charles M. Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts cartoon.

Why not celebrate by pulling the football away as your friend tries to kick it?

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.

And the Pastors Rejoiced! - 02 October 2021 - Plague Journal Day 569

Micah 6:8
2 Timothy 4:1-5

Today in history really is one for celebration. On 02 October 1950, Charles M. Schulz's comic strip, Peanuts, was printed for the first time in 9 newspapers around the U.S.

If you've been in more than two church services in any one year, I'd be willing to bet you've heard a pastor use a Peanuts cartoon as a sermon illustration. Charles Schulz was a genius - even if that first strip didn't seem like it was really going where we all have seen it all end up. Still, we can recognize Charlie, even without his standard shirt, and we can see that he's the one who doesn't always know what's going on around him. He really is an everyman, isn't he?

Today is also World Card Making Day, probably not Charlie Brown's favorite day, unless someone finally would make him a card and he wouldn't be left with sarcasm as his only defense.

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.

Dim Sum or Dark Total? - 13 September 2021 - Plague Journal Day 550

Leviticus 11  Acts 10:9-16

Today has three great celebrations: Fortune Cookie Day, International Chocolate Day, and National Peanut Day.

What a great combination of celebrations! In order to really get into the spirit of the day, we should fill a fortune cookie with peanut butter and chocolate - basically a Reese's stuffed in a fortune cookie in the place of the traditional piece of paper. Who wouldn't prefer that to a slip saying "Does one ever really know what meat is in the dumpling?" I know I would.

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.

29 April 2020 - Plague Journal Day 48

We all are still sheltering in place, but I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

Since today is both International Dance Day and World Stationery Day, you probably expected me to suggest that you all dance in place. You know something like how Shermy danced in the Charlie Brown Christmas special. (You know, that other kid's dance - the one with the nearly-shaved head - is eerily similar to an infamous dance known as the Geyer Get-Down, but I'm fairly certain - and relieved - that there seems to be no video evidence of that bit of choreography.)
As I said, you likely expected that suggestion from me, but I noticed that it's stationEry, not sationAry and rejected that as a poorly thought out pun.

Instead, let's celebrate the glory that was Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood in a video that - to my mind, at least - is right up there with the Old Greg clip I shared back on 21 April 2020 - Plague Journal Day 40.
Thus - here for your viewing and marveling pleasure is Some Velvet Morning.

You're welcome.

Keep Calm and Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.
