22 February 2022 - Plague Journal Day 712

Yes, your life matters.

Some of you are still sheltering in place, but fear not: I'm here to keep you sane and entertained.
One could hardly ask for much more than that, now could one?

Today marks the 122nd birthday of Luis Buñuel, the fabulous Spanish film director who was born on 22 February 1900; perhaps you've seen some of his work. It's as bizarre as film gets, and to make things even more surreal (aha! a clue!), you might want to check out this wonderful song by the Austin Lounge Lizards: The Illusion Travels by Stock Car.Yes, apparently Richard Petty was a big fan of surrealist cinema - or so the song goes.

Today's freewrite prompt word is Embrace.

I'm tempted to do something very short here, and simply note that the Austin Lounge Lizards have always been willing to embrace the most bizarre of musical juxtapositions. As a (pretty much) Bluegrass band, they have covered Pink Floyd (Brain Damage - it's fantastic), joined Richard Petty and Luis Buñuel in the above-lined song, given us the "gospel" song, Jesus Loves Me, but He Can't Stand You, and many other delights.
I think you'd do well to embrace the idea of listening to them, as well as to embrace the strange links that you notice between seemingly very disparate things. That's a big part of where creativity lies - seeing connections between things that normally aren't (or shouldn't be!) connected.

Go forth and have some fun!

Keep Calm and Don't Stay Away.
I'll be back tomorrow.
The mental health issues related to our insane lockdown and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, has a 24 hour helpline: 800-950-6264.
